Blackstone Publishing commissioned me to create the cover illustration for Wild Stallion by Lisa Renee Jones.
The story is an angsty cowboy romance set in Texas, so the main focus was the chemistry between the two characters, with a strong Western atmosphere and a bold, colourful look.
I created several sketch and colour options, exploring two different character arrangements and a few colour directions.
We decided to move forward with the pink colour palette and one of the character compositions, and I started developing the sketch further.
At this stage, the art director suggested flipping the characters horizontally so the title and figures would follow the same diagonal. It was a small change, but it made the whole composition feel more connected.
During the final stage, we made a few small changes to the characters.
Chloe was made more petite, with slimmer legs and hips while keeping her proportions balanced.
Rhett’s waist was made slightly narrower to give him a stronger V-shaped torso.
The final artwork stayed close to the chosen sketch, but each round of feedback strengthened the composition and characters.
The team especially loved the colours, and the final version was approved with no further changes.
